Have I ever mentioned that line?
Are you familiar with a tune by The Prodigy that might sound a little bit like saying “Snap My Picture”? Well, those aren’t the lyrics, in fact only one word is correct!
During spin class one of the stand-in instructors (who also happens to be manager of something-or-other at the gym) had The Prodigy song playing, and was singing “Snap My Picture” along with the song…genuinely thinking that those were the lyrics!
Ok, why am I talking about this?
Well, on the ride home today the one-legged-steed was the picture and I was give it a good snapping!
I got a good jump out of the parking lot, straight to a green light and then there was not traffic at my first turn…it was on! I was gonna beat my personal best for the ride home come hell or high water (storm surge around here).
I got going through the neighborhoods near the office going at or above speed limit (20mph)…had clear stop signs…didn’t get held up at a normal bad turn…
I did spend about a minute at 10mph going between red lights at the freeway overpass though, and that is factored into my time!
After the overpass I was at 21mph or better the whole way bar corners.
Looking at my HR it’s bang on LT level, and peaked out well above @ 178bpm.
The real positive thing with this is the fact I was going this fast, with only one gear, no aero bars, no aero helmet and a big backpack on! High Speed Yurtle the Turtle!
After doing this all winter (and riding the road bike on the weekends) I should come into the next racing season going quite fast! My goal for the first race is a 23mph average…seems doable so long as it’s not wild weather.
The running side needs to get the same level of effort though…I looked back at my goals and had written 6:15/mile pace in for that…might be a tad tougher (that’s an understatement).

What the heck are you going to do on a ride with no obstacles? Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

I hope you a had a good one too.
I know the obstacles will be back, so can’t worry about it too much…in fact they’ll likely be back with reinforcements next time!
