First Body Fat %

1 05 2008

Having testing my body fat analyzer I went back to my normal weigh-in day of Thursday…first thing in the morning.

Taking my weight and body fat they came out to be 189 and 18.6. So these are my baselines to track and work from.

Gained 0.4lb for Thanksgiving

29 11 2007

I suppose I should be giving thanks that all I gained was 0.4lb.  I don’t think the actual turkey, etc, would cause any problems but the rest of the sweet stuff!

Combine the food with the in-laws in town and no time to exercise it wasn’t too bad.

Today looks like it has potential to be a good riding day.  It is a bit cold (certainly the ground was frozen when I took the puppy out to potty this morning) but looks like it might stay dry.

Time to Retire

23 11 2007

Ok, maybe that’s re-tire…re-tyre?

Stick some new rubber on the bike!!!

Did the rounds of the local bike shops today…both of them…looking for new tires and decided I can’t buy them locally.  The best single tire deal I could get local was $37 for a 700cx25 and $45 for 700cx23…good grief.

I bought a PAIR online, including 2nd Day Air shipping for $41.  Based on that kind of difference I’m just wasting my time even looking.  Granted I will wait a couple of days for them to show up, but I will get quality tires and save myself $50.  Being that I’m Scottish I just can’t bring myself to spend the extra!

Weighed in yesterday at 189 for the second week in a row.  Not really surprising I didn’t lose anything during the past week and I likely won’t over the next week (no bike in action and Thanksgiving easting).

Under 190!

1 11 2007

It’s the morning after the night before and that night was Halloween.  That resulted in some pretty decent sleep as the kids and puppy were worn out and everything slept through the night.

Being that it’s Thursday my weekly weigh-in happened and I’m under 190 (as the title suggests…). Not bad all things considered! I’m still trying to figure out what my goal(s) should be…more thinking required. I know I had 185 as my target and people told me I would look too thin at that.  Given that I’m just 5lbs off 185 I can tell you I have more than 5 I can lose! Probably 15-20 more!

Today is my off (the bike) day as I have somewhere to be after work that I don’t really want to ride to. I’ll need to put in a short ride on Saturday to make it to 50 miles for the week. After tomorrow I should be at 44 so 6 miles will be all that’s needed. My 7.5 mile route home is one I’ve ridden as a loop the other way a couple of times. It might be interesting to ride that and see how my performance compares to early August when I last rode it.

In order to keep up with the Joneses (Hobbes and his stud farm) I’ve updated my Noble Steed page to include the tractor.

Weight Coming Down and General Bleeting

25 10 2007

The following is a lot of rambling about a bunch of things as they come to mind…

Continuing with my theme of ‘…est in 10 years’ I can now add lightEST to fastest, fittest, longest.

Earlier in the year (just before salmon season) I had weighed in just under 192 which was my lightest since in 10 years.  This morning I tipped the scales at 190.4!  This is teetering on what I considered my fighting weight when I was sailing competitively in the mid-late 90s (then I was around 13.5 stone - 189lbs, 86kg).  On reflection I wasn’t actually in particularly great shape then.  Today I might be a couple of pounds heavier than I was then, but I’m physically fitter.

Another item of note while I talking about 10 years ago is my kilt…

I’m Scottish, born, raised and lived there until I was 21, and have a kilt that I wear for special occassions.  Anyway, I was measured and fit for the kilt when I weighed just under 200.  I told the kilt maker that it should be adjustable down a little bit because I was planning to lose weight.  She told me “ok, I hear that all the time but it rarely happens”.  Well, it’s taken 10 years but it’s happening.

With that in mind I should really try my kilt on again…I don’t really want to shrink to the point where it doesn’t fit!  I suppose there are worse things that could happen.  It will certainly be a lot looser!

Recently my daughter has been fascinated with obscure World Records.  Hula-hoop record…longest time standing on one leg…longest leg hair…odd stuff!

On Sunday there was a deer (4 point buck) came out of the bushes in front of me when I was out riding my bike and bounded down the road in front of me like Pepe le Peu (all 4 feet bouncing) going at 18mph!  It kept that up for about 1/2 mile!!  I wondered to myself if that was a World Record…both speed and distance.

Earlier in the week I fed the puppy then watched as the kitten came over and they ate out of the same bowl.  It was all very cute…they’re both the same color and play well together…so I decided to take a photo of the scene.  Just as I turned the camera on the puppy decided it was time to chew the kitten (a popular game) but the kitten ducked between her legs.  The result was a very good impersonation of an elephant…see below!
